Patchwork Quilts

    Posted by Jean Eastwood on

Patchwork is at the heart of quilting, a timeless craft that brings together small pieces of fabric to create something far greater than the sum of its parts. For centuries, quilters have pieced together fabrics - whether from worn garments, treasured fabrics, or newly cut cotton - to form patterns rich with colour and meaning.

Popular from the 1700'sonward, patchwork became both a practical way to reuse fabric and creative outlet for storytelling through design. From simple squares and triangles to intricate stars and diamonds, patchwork blocks can be arranged into endless quilt layouts, each one unique to the maker.

Today, patchwork continues to celebrate tradition while inviting modern quilters to experiment with fresh fabrics, bold colours and new techniques, making every quilt a piece of art as well as a piece of history.
